<h4>Nebraska Rural Radio Foundation Counsel</h4>
<p>Simmons Olsen was recently selected as general counsel for the Nebraska Rural Radio Foundation Board. From its first day, KRVN has been the Rural Voice of Nebraska. The Nebraska Rural Radio Association is still owned by more than 4,000 farmers and ranchers. Governed by a 9 person Board of Directors, there are 6 radio stations in the Rural Radio Network: KNEB AM/FM, KTIC AM/FM and KRVN AM/FM.</p>
<h4>City of Alliance City Attorney</h4>
<p>The firm has been selected on an Interim basis to represent the City of Alliance as its City Attorneys.  Alliance is a town of 9,000 people.  The firm’s strong municipal practice was the reason for the selection.  The firm also represents the cities of Scottsbluff, Kimball, Mitchell and Morrill and does Special City Attorney work for Bridgeport.  The firm has also done special work for the cities of Gordon and McCook.</p>
<h4>City of McCook</h4>
<p>The firm was requested to give an opinion to the City of McCook on whether two of their councilpersons had forfeited their positions by reasons of their convictions for a mean dog activity and disturbing the peace.  The opinion concluded the two councilmen had committed crimes and as such should have forfeited their offices.  The opinion interpreted 19-613 of the Nebraska Statutes.  The complete opinion can be viewed at <a href="http://www.mccookgazette.com/files/legal-opinion.1.pdf">https://www.mccookgazette.com/files/legal-opinion.1.pdf</a>.</p>
<h4>School Board</h4>
<p>John L. Selzer was appointed to the Scottsbluff Public Schools Board of Education in July of 2011. John was appointed to fulfill the term of Dr. Michael Shedd, who moved out of the District. John will serve on the School Board’s curriculum committee and be one of Scottsbluff’s representatives on the VALTS Board.</p>
<h4>NEXT Young Professionals</h4>
<p>Simmons Olsen Law Firm is a corporate member of NEXT Young Professionals. The purpose of NEXT is to help recruit, retain, and enhance young professionals in area by providing professional development seminars, social events, and community service opportunities. Andrea Miller, Katie Baltensperger, and John L. Selzer are all actively involved in NEXT. John is currently serving as the President of NEXT’s Board of Directors.</p>
<h4>Teammates</h4>
<p>John L. Selzer and Katie Baltensperger both serve as mentors of the Teammates Mentoring Program. Teammates is school based mentoring program in which a member of the community is matched with a local student. Mentors meet with their students once a week for one hour to play games, to homework, or simply hang out. The goal of Teammates is help students reach their full potential through mentoring. Katie is a mentor as Lincoln Elementary in Gering. John is a mentor at Bluffs Middle School as well as the President of the Board of Directors for the Scotts Bluff County Chapter of Teammates.</p>
<h4>UNL Panhandle Alumni Association</h4>
<p>John L. Selzer is currently serving as the President of the Panhandle Chapter of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Alumni Association. The Panhandle Alumni Association organizes events for UNL Alumni and supporters. Events include an annual golf tournament, an annual Founder’s Dinner with speakers from the University, and Husker football watch parties. Recently the Panhandle Alumni Association sponsored a bus trip/ticket package to the Nebraska vs. Wyoming football game in Laramie.</p>
